Fungi futures
A new podcast episode on fungi and queer ecologies, plus carbon-based land grabs and a new research project.
Fungi, relationships and emancipatory futures
In the 10th episode of our podcast, Anoushka talks to Maymana Arefin, the founder of Fungi Futures, a project learning with fungi to map radical alternative futures.

The conversation touches on the colonial history of botany and nature-based art, what ‘queering’ ecology means, and how fungi help bring community and healing. Visit the link for the full audio, show notes and reading suggestions.
Land grabs and carbon offsetting
Debates and events around the UN’s COP29 conference are a reminder that the global systems that respond to climate change present big opportunities for business, producing benefits for some and problems for many others.
A recent study by GRAIN shows the scale of land deals and land grabs associated with carbon offsetting projects around the world. The study identified 279 large-scale tree and crop planting projects for carbon credits that corporations have initiated since 2016 in the global South.
New research: rangelands in Southern Africa
Members of the Future Natures network are part of a new research initiative, the REPAiR Project.
The project focuses on Southern Africa, where communally governed rangelands and grasslands support wildlife, vast informal economies and millions of people. The REPAiR project explores the potential and challenges of context-sensitive and community-led approaches for stewardship of these rangelands.
